Standard rail lines of the San Francisco Bay Area and Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART). Trains are inter-operable on all of the standard rail lines (Caltrain, Amtrak, Altamont Commuter Express, and dashed green lines). A standard rail line also is proposed for the Bay Bridge between San Francisco and Oakland (not shown). Not all rail lines are shown. Light rail lines are not shown. Some shared use of the same lines has been omitted for simplicity (e.g. Altamont Commuter Express between Fremont and San Jose, Amtrak between Gilroy and Santa Clara).
